Fog & Morup’s Chrome and Golden Lines

We wrote in an earlier post (which you can read here) about cross-model colour coordination at Fog & Morup under Jo Hammerborg’s artistic direction through the 1960s and 1970s, which allowed the consumer to mix and match different models to harmonious effect in the home. Occasionally these coordinated productions were marketed explicitly as colour-based lines, the late 1960s Rainbow Line and White Line initiatives being the best-known examples.

Much less well-known are the mid 1970s Chrome Line and Golden Line productions. Included in the Chrome Line were special chromium editions of the Fibonacci, the Semi and (pictured top below) the Bunker and the Poker, while the top-of-the-range Golden Line featured gleaming 24 carat gold-plated versions of the Semi, the Sektor and the Milieu (pictured in order below). The Golden Line, said the F&M publicity material, will be well suited as a refined detail in your home, where for example leather furniture and precious woods are used.

    Jo Hammerborg’s rarest F&M light?

One of Jo Hammerborg’s earliest designs for Fog & Mørup is also perhaps his most rarely seen and least recognised F&M creation. The Kubus, pictured below in an F&M advertisement published in 1961 and in our own photos following the advert, is on a smaller scale than most Hammerborg lights, measuring just 22cm in height. The Kubus was available in orange, blue or cream.
